**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Veracruz (also Vera Cruz), ca. 600 to 800 CE; West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE; West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. This group of 7 fine visages is remarkable for its wide range of diverse expressions. Most are from ancient Mexico, and from the Jamacoaque culture of the Pacific coast of Ecuador; each highly adorned, mold-made human figures of elite status donning grand headdresses, ear and nose ornaments, and pendant necklaces. Three of the visages are Vera Cruz heads from a Sonriente (smiling figure), 2 of which present grand headdresses adorned with a linear incised motifs and round earspools. A Jamacoaque made head with a large headdress and applied band. Two Chupicuaro heads with incised stippling, and a Jalisco head with large earspools and suspension holes pierced through the domed headdress. Size of largest head: 3.75" L x 3" W (9.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
