Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $1000**

Ancient Central Asia, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. An incredible mace head, formed from bronze via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique, that features a ball-shaped head and eight slender lobes that alternate along either the upper or lower head. Each protrusion exhibits a pair of vertical slivers as well as a bullseye-style 'eye' that has recessed cavities which were perhaps once adorned with enamel or precious stones. The cylindrical socketing shaft is capped with a discoid protrusion, and the interior of the head cavity bears over a dozen thin pins for gripping the inserted end of the handle. Enveloping the mace head are mottled layers of green and russet patina that imbue the weapon with a distinguished presentation. Size: 3.3" L x 2.3" W (8.4 cm x 5.8 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired in 2002 from Venus Gallery, Israel
