Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A mold-formed faience scarab of petite size and ovoid form. The topside exhibits a narrow head with a frilled clypeus, sinuous legs, and a folded wing carapace, all enveloped in remains of turquoise-hued glaze. Inscribed on the underside are hieroglyphs that when translated read, "(The God) Amun is established." Amun, the god of air and one of the 8 primordial deities in Egyptian mythology, was an incredibly important and potent deity that would have protected the wearer of any item bearing his name. Size: 0.37" L x 0.28" W (0.9 cm x 0.7 cm)
Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

Condition
Fading to areas of glaze pigment, otherwise intact and excellent. Nice remains of glaze pigment visible, and great preservation to inscribed hieroglyphs.
