Description
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1070 BCE; Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A nice set of 4 mold-formed faience amulets from ancient Egypt. From the New Kingdom is a faience scarab with insectile topside features as well as a royal uraeus cobra presiding over the god Set. The Late Dynastic Period artifacts include a striding upper body of the lioness-headed goddess Sekhmet, covered in blue-green glaze; a petite wadjet (also wedjat or Eye of Horus) features a large eye beneath a perforated suspension loop; and a slender djed pillar with a flared base and four tiered projections along the top. Size of largest (scarab): 1" L x 0.73" W (2.5 cm x 1.9 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

Losses to legs and lower body of Sekhmet amulet as shown; remaining 3 artifacts are intact and very good. Minor softening to some finer details commensurate with age, with fading to glaze pigment, and very light encrustations within some recessed areas. Great preservation to overall forms.
