Description
(1913-1994) Thirty-seventh President of the United States who led during the Vietnam War, re-opened diplomatic ties with China and the U.S.S.R., resigned his office due to the Watergate scandal. Fine content partly-printed D.S. with rare variation of his signature 'R M Nixon', 2pp. 4to., Key Biscayne, Fl. (where Nixon maintained a fine home), May 15, 1977. Nixon submits a Personal Financial Statement to the Key Biscayns Ban and Trust Company in order to obtain: '...credit with you on notes and bills bearing my signature...' Nixon indicates that his net worth is $1,389,905, has a mortgage of $191,000, owes banks $160,000, owns stock worth $593,000 and real estate valued at $400,000, that he made $247,500 from 'writing' and $80,500 from 'Pension & Retirement', values his San Clemente property at $191,000, and much more. Sold with the original filing envelope from thge bank dated the same day and sealed by a state bank examiner on Sep. 5, 1977. The signature on this document is not Nixon's typical signature of the period, but it contains sufficient elements satisfying us of its complete authenticity. Indeed, Nixon's 1971 and 1972 federal tax returns were both signed with the inclusion of his middle initial, and the 1971 return shows an equally aberrant signature. It appears the president had difficulty changing his signature...or perhaps just signing financial documents while under penalty of law! Folds, else fine condition.
