Description
(1885 - 1966) American admiral, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II and largely responsible for the successful 'island-hopping' campaign against the Japanese. Pair of signed items, includes a most desirable I.S.P signed twice, 8.75 x 6.25, b/w, depicting Nimitz signing the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, he signs over the pictured surrender document 'C.W. Nimitz US Representative.' Mounted. Nimitz also inscribes the mount, writing 'To J.E. Stokes with best wishes and great appreciation, C.W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, USN.' Also included is an A.N.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d] to the same recipient of the photo, in full: 'I suggest that you ask Admiral of the Fleet Lord Bruce Fraser RN to sign the picture just to the left of his person' Some adhesive reside and stains to the mount, else both in fine condition.
