Description
Oceania, North Pacific, Hawaii, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A lovely bowl, hand-turned from the wood of a Norfolk pine tree to present a heavy base and smooth walls that taper upwards to a slender rim above a deep basin, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. Natural chocolate brown striations dance across the caramel-hued woodgrain, as honey and butterscotch-colored graining further accentuates the beauty of this elegant dish. Size: 3.6" Diameter x 2.8" H (9.1 cm x 7.1 cm)
Norfolk pines are a tree species introduced to the Hawaiian Islands as an ornamental tree. Despite the name, Norfolk pines are not in the pine family, but their wood planks often contain knots much like pine which create nice areas of dark contrast.
