Vintage Real Photo Postcard of Bob Dalton Deceased After the Coffeyville Raid, Owned by the Photographer
This Photo, 5.5" x 3.5", bearing a photograph of a deceased Bob Dalton after being shot and killed at the attempted bank robbery in Coffeyville, Kansas on October 5th, 1892. From the archives of famous Old West photographer John Tackett.
Likely from the first half of the 20th century.
John Tackett owned a photography studio in Coffeyville, where Tackett would capture the famous images of the Dalton Gang after the Coffeyville raid. Tackett would also go onto collaborate with Emmett Dalton in order to write, film, produce and distribute a movie about the raid.
On October 5, 1892, the famous Dalton Gang attempted the daring daylight robbery of two Coffeyville, Kansas, banks at the same time, including the First National Bank. Other than Bob’s brother Emmett Dalton, who was shot 23 times, the entire gang was killed by quick-acting townspeople.
Bob Dalton was the leader of the Dalton Gang which was known for robbing banks, stagecoaches and trains, primarily in Kansas and Oklahoma Territory, quickly attracting pursuit by lawmen.
