Early Gold Rush piece with a key autograph on the reverse. No. 2916, issued to George T. Morehouse for one share in 1856.Signed by John Henry Bodt (secretary) and the president, J. Mandeville. Signed on back by D. O. Mills as Atty. for Morehouse. Cut cancelled. A classic mining vignette showing a dammed river, miners operating sluices and a rocker. Lithography by Britton & Rey, S.F. 6 x 9.75" Darius Ogden Mills was a businessman and bank owner during the California Gold Rush. He followed his two brothers (including James) out to California. He co-founded the ultra-powerful Bank of California, which dominated mining on the Comstock Lode until the "Bonanza Kings" were able to break that hold. Mills was also co-owner of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad.
