Pre-Columbian, Caribbean, Arawak People, Taino, ca. 15th century CE. A fascinating stone carving of ovoid form showing a stylized squatting figure with slender limbs and hands and feet placed together. Covered by a hood, the ancient figure's round visage displays coffee bean-shaped eyes, a rectangular nose, pursed lips, a pointed chin, and incised striations of ceremonial scarification across the sunken cheeks. Please note that Lucite stand is for photography purposes only. Size: 8.625" L x 3.125" W (21.9 cm x 7.9 cm)
Provenance: private J. S. collection, Sedona, Arizona, USA, acquired in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, in the 1980s
