This lot contains an antique ceremonial woven brass wire belt from the Ilongot peoples, the belt is worn by women who are Pregnant for religious and tribal ceremonies. The Ilongot are a tribe who inhabit the southern Sierra Madre and Caraballo Mountains, on the east side of Luzon Island in the Philippines, primarily in the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija and along the mountain border between the provinces of Quirino and Aurora. An alternative name of this tribe and its language is "Bugkalots." The belt is elaborately decorated wrapped brass metals. Collected in the Mid 20th century by Paul hendricks and was displayed for decades at the Museum of Oddities, Metamora Indiana.
