Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche and Chimu cultures ca. 100 BCE to 1470 CE. A collection of 8 copper bells of various forms and 2 miniature vessels, all for ritualistic use. The largest bell is cast into a spherical shape with a ridge encircling the center, two openings on either end for receiving the rattle balls. The other large bell is a clam shape, with the copper panel folded in the center. The other four bells retain the rattles and emit a jingling sound. Three have integral suspension loops and one has a zoomorphic finial. The last two items are beads or miniature vessels shaped like bottles. They have a narrow neck, and one retains parts of the flared rim. They all have a rich patina, but beneath is a silvery surface that has trace amounts of silver added to the copper. Size of large spherical bell: 3.5" Diameter (8.9 cm); vessel: 1.25" L x 1" W (3.2 cm x 2.5 cm)

Tearing and chips to peripheries of larger clam shaped bell, missing rattle ball. Large spherical bell is intact, but missing rattle ball. Rich green patina on these two. The 4 smaller bells have the rattle balls and make noise. Stable fissure on animal finial bell. Losses to rims of the two vessel amulets. Heavy mineral deposits and green patina on both vessels.
