Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, Pre-Conquest Period, ca. early 15th to early 16th century CE; Post-Conquest Period, ca. mid-16th to 17th century CE. A lovely gathering of 6 hand tools from the Inca. A set of 5 copper tools are from the Pre-Conquest period, with 4 exhibiting minimalist celt forms, and the fifth with a lengthy tang and a curved blade used perhaps for shaping wood or mud bricks. The largest tool is from the post-Conquest period and is made of bronze. Its sturdy handle enabled its function as a chopper, however remains of woven textile wrappings suggest this tool was a burial offering for a deceased individual. Size of largest (post-Conquest): 10.8" L x 6.125" W (27.4 cm x 15.6 cm); (case): 12.25" L x 8.25" W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
