Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1000 CE. A musical whistling bridge-spouted stirrup vessel created by the Chancay culture. This example features a fine rendering of a cazique atop the front chamber, all in the characteristic bichrome deep brown-black on white finish. Measures 9"H x 4 1/2"W.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-privateex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s
