Description
Polish or Hungarian antique sword. Provincial made example displaying distinct Ottoman influence. 20 3/4" deeply curved s.e. blade of heavy fighting form, shows a few small pock marks or nicks and light tool finish. Large hilt with a recurved copper guard, radially fluted oval pommel, and two-piece japanned wood grips with five studs on each side. Brass mounted green velvet-covered scabbard with heraldic motif to the locket. Scabbard and hilt mounts all with medium mottled patina, undoubtedly uniformly gilt throughout originally. Scabbard fabric is excellent with light wear to the edges only. Probably made for a merchant or other freeman under the serf system.
