According to Craig's Daguerreian Registry, by John Craig, Montgomery Pike Simons was possibly making daguerreotype cases in 1842. His first listing as such in a Philadelphia city directory was in 1843. According to Directory of Pennsylvania Photographers 1839-1900, by Linda A. Ries and Jay W. Ruby, M. P. Simons was active in Philadelphia as a daguerreian photographer and case maker at various addresses on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia from 1842 to 1861, with his practice extending beyond that date.
NOAH SIMONS or N.A. SIMONS was likely a brother who appeared in Philadelphia Directories as a case maker.
This collection was on display at Gettysburg College and the paper labels for the exhibition are included.
