"Heidi" by Johanna Spyri, with over 100 color paintings specially created for this edition by Ruth Sanderson, published by Knopf, New York, 1984, stated First Edition [for these illustrations], First printing [Knopf marked 'First Edition' only the copies of the first printing.
Original dust jacket [edge wear and small creases, price clipped front flap]; hard boards, original green cloth, gold lettering and decoration on the front board and spine; 8.1/4" x 10.1/4"; decorated endpapers, former owner name on the front endpaper and token; her blind stamp is on the front ep, token page and half-title page; 285 pages + 'Illustrator's Note' and colophon, 100 color illustrations, red dot on the outer top edge of the pages, very good condition.
Ruth Sanderson (born 1951) is an American illustrator and writer of children's books. She is a member of the Society of Illustrators, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Western Massachusetts Illustrator's Guild. She is Co-Director of the low-residency MFA in Children's Book Writing and Illustrating and Certificate in Children's Book Illustration programs at Hollins University.
Sanderson's earliest works were published in her mid-twenties: Grandma's Beach Surprise by Ilka List (G. P. Putnam's Sons) in 1975 and four including an edition of The Little Engine That Could in 1976. She illustrated new editions of several young-adult novels in the Nancy Drew and Bobbsey Twins mystery series. Sanderson's illustrations have been described as evocative of the past but employing a "21st century approach to texture and brightness.
