A LOBED RIM BRONZE MIRROR, TANG DYNASTY
China, 618-907. The eight-side lobed rim mirror with four raised and lobed cartouches composed of foliate scrolls, each containing a bird perched on a flower surrounding the central pierced knob, all within a band of regularly spaced flower heads.

Provenance: Bluett & Sons, London (label to reverse). From the Private Collection of a Gentleman in the United Kingdom, acquired by the owner's father from the above and thence by descent. Bluett & Sons was an important dealer of Chinese works of art, founded by brothers Leonard and Edgar Bluett and later continued by Leonard's son Roger Bluett, who was president of the British Antique Dealers' Association, of which his father and uncle were founding members in 1919, during the mid-1970s. Roger Bluett was also Chairman of the Grosvenor House Antiques, first Chairman of the ceramics course at West Dean and first Chairman of the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age. Old wear, signs of weathering and erosion. Light scratches and minuscule nicks. Fine, naturally grown patina with areas of malachite encrustation.
