Item Details
Description
Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. first half of the 5th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery lekythos of a tall and slender form with a piriform body resting atop a discoid foot. The planar shoulder tapers to form a cylindrical neck with a bell-shaped rim, and a thick handle arches from the verso of the neck. The once-white ground has darkened slightly to exhibit a soft peach color atop which rows of lattice patterns and Greek meander are presented. A trio of linear palmette leaves decorate the central panel of the body, and radiating around the shoulder are dozens of slender frets. Size: 2.45" Diameter x 7.4" H (6.2 cm x 18.8 cm)
