Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882-1966) was an early 20th-century photographer who helped lead the development of American pictorialism. In 1901, he moved to Paris to study with Edward Steichen and Robert Demachy. Upon his return to the U.S. in 1902, he studied with Gertrude Käsebier in New York and opened his own studio on Fifth Avenue. He was most prolific from 1906-1907, with George Bernard Shaw describing him as "the greatest photographer in the world".
