1912 panoramic photograph captioned "Thirty Third Annual Convention Virginia State Firemen's Association, Charlottesville, Va. Aug. 27-29 1914" and signed lower right "Photo by Holsinger". Rufus W. Holsinger (1866-1930) was an important local photographer in Charlottesville Virginia from the late 19th century to 1930.The image captures hundreds of firemen from various locations including, according to their banners, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Charlottesville, and Shenandoah, Virginia, all in their various uniforms and with horsedrawn and gas powered ladder trucks, a brass band, and with wonderful details in the background including clowns and female acrobats departing on horseback on the far left, a traffic jam of cars, floats, firetrucks and streetcars, people hanging out of windows to watch the event, African American and white people milling about, and a great view of Charlottesville's Main street with signs for "Poindexter's Pharmacy" and a warning that fines for public spitting were $1-$5. Clear, sepia tone photo, nearly every face in focus. Frame: approx. 36 1/4" x 9 3/4"Visible Image: approx. 34 1/4" x 7 1/2".
