1931 Ford Model A 400 Convertible. The Model A Ford Convertible Sedan was introduced in May 1931, only a few months before the end of Model A production. Only about 5,000 of the 400-A (commonly called the A400) body style was made, and this example is #2287 in the production run so likely was assembled in July 1931. In its restoration the body was completely media blasted and sheet metal repairs made, fenders, running boards, hood and aprons reworked. Missing seats, floor pans, correct original handles, garnish moldings, armrests, stainless steel headlamps, cowl lamps and tail lamps, plus many other correct parts were located, repaired, and refinished. All chassis and mechanical components were disassembled, cleaned, bead-blasted or sandblasted as necessary before repairs and painting. All gears, bearings and seals were replaced in the transmission, rear axle, and driveline. All wheel bearings are new, as are spindle bolts, bushings and tie rod parts and seals. All steering arms are rebuilt with new balls and steering gear has been rebuilt with new bearings, races, and sector gear. Front and rear spring shackles and bushings are new, with rebuilt shock absorbers and original links. Brakes have new linings and all rods, shafts, clevises, and small parts have been restored or replaced. All wiring harnesses and cables are new in the original style. The battery is a new 6v Optima. Horn, light switch and operating rod are restored and replated originals. Steering wheel is a reproduction of the original. This one is ready to drive home!
