Description
Land deed signed by 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) as "Andrew Jackson" at lower right. Recorded at Washington, D.C. on January 4, 1831. The document, which is partly printed and partly handwritten on a vellum sheet measuring 15.625" x 9.75" overall, was also signed at lower right by Elijah Hayward (1786-1864), Commissioner of the United States General Land Office between 1830-1835. Bearing an embossed United States General Land Office seal at lower left, slightly cracked. Expected wear including toning, folds, isolated holes found along creases, and minor discoloration, else very good to near fine. The document is displayed above a biographical description of Jackson framed by a group of cartoons entitled "An Era of Tremendous Industrial Development." Matted and framed behind glass. Not examined outside of the frame. The overall framed size is 21.75" x 24.5" x 1." Accompanied by a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity, certification number U01982, dated September 20, 2013.
Certificate No. 1181 granted 80 acres of land near Chillicothe, Ohio to Arthur Ruby of Licking County, Ohio. The land extended from "the East half of the North-East quarter of Section six in Township three of Range fifteen (of the unappropriated Lands in the Military District, offered for sale at Chillicothe, Ohio..." Chillicothe is located approximately 45 miles south of Columbus and is situated along the Scioto River.
Andrew Jackson served as president between 1829-1837.
