GERMAN PAPER MACHE LADY WITH “BEEHIVE” COIFFURE. 13 ½”. Paper mache shoulderhead with black sculpted hair with ringlet curls at the sides with extended braided “beehive” topknot, deep blue eyes with upper eyeliner and tapered brows, closed mouth with hint of a smile, slender kid body, wooden lower arms and legs, painted flat blue shoes, remains of original costume, original velvet bonnet. Commentary: Circa 1840, rare model which retains fine original finish with minor typical craquelure on shoulderplate, highly-stylized coiffure, excellent body. (from Cynthia Musser collection).
