GERMAN PAPER MACHE DOLL WITH RARE ELABORATE COIFFURE. 14”. Paper mache shoulderhead with oval face, slender throat, sculpted black hair arranged in center-part and draped over the ears into long curls at sides falling onto shoulders, back pulled upward to crown and topped with small tightly-coiled braided chignon, painted features, brown eyes, tapered brows, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, slender cloth body with carved wooden lower limbs, painted flat green shoes, original cotton dress, slip and pantaloons. Commentary: Circa 1830’s doll has unique and rarely-seen coiffure, retains lovely original finish, minor craquelure, overall very good condition. (from Cynthia Musser collection).
