Item Details
Description
One of Britains first toys, the Mahjrah seated upon a gyroscopic walking elephant. An early friction toy. The elephant's body is composed of pressed tin and the figure and legs are cast in lead. This is a string toy in which a string was placed atop the head and pulled causing the parasol to rotate and the elephant to move forward. This very fine example is missing the parasol and internal mechanism is in need of repair. 4.5" in length. Circa 1893. 1 piece. Unboxed.
