Contents of Governor Stevens' Report include general descriptions of regions examined, the practicality of various railroad routes, the navigability of the Missouri, descriptions of the ranges and passes, availability of local raw materials, reports from Lieutenant Mullan on his exploration to Fort Hall, descriptions of the Cascades, importance of Puget Sound, construction plans, use of wagon roads, indigenous peoples to be encountered, the establishment of mail posts, extinguishment of indigenous land titles, encouragement of settlements and wagon roads. Over 50 papers, reports & letters follow the chapters. Volumes from the octavo edition of this report are quite rare. Bookplate of American conservationist Frederick E. Ellis on the front pastedown.
