This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the expressionist style of visual artist Chaim Soutine (Russian-French, 1893-1943). Image depicts a swirling landscape scene with two figures progressing down a brightly-lit lane. A hand-painted inscription at lower right corner reads, "Soutine". A charming and vivid addition to any collection. Overall framed dimensions approximately 18.5" x 11.5".

Reverse side of canvas reveals some age-related discoloration and a large ink stamp.

Chaim Soutine (Russian-Freench, 1893-1943) was greatly inspired by classical European painting traditions -- including the work of Rembrandt and Courbet. Soutine developed his own distinct style as his illustrious career unfolded. He is now known for his bold use of shape, color, and texture over realistic representation. Soutine serves as a unique bridge between academic painting and the burgeoning modern sensibilities that his lifetime anticipated.
