**Originally Listed At $200**

Richard Aberle Florsheim (American, 1916-1979), "Moonrise", signed original lithograph, signed in pencil on lower right. Mid 20th century. An elegant composition depicting sailboats along a wharf - a few boats in the foreground and several more in the middle distance - as the moon rises - its natural light glistening over the expanse of water. Another wharf scene by Florsheim is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum (accession number 1966.64.20 - https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/town-wharf-8449). Born in Chicago, Florsheim studied in New York with Aaron Bohrod in 1934 and 1935. He also pursued independent study in France, Italy, central Europe, and the Near East from 1936 to 1938. In France, he studied with Emile Bernard, exhibiting in the late 1930s with the Salon des Refuses. The Musee du Jeu de Paume purchased his painting of Don Quixote. Size: image measures 9.7" W x 13.75" H (24.6 cm x 34.9 cm); 16.75" W x 20.75" H (42.5 cm x 52.7 cm) with frame

Following his study in Europe, Florsheim returned to Chicago where he began working in lithography. After service in the war, Florsheim resumed his artistic career and exhibited widely. In addition, he helped found the Artists’ League of the Midwest with Artists’ Equity Association of New York, and later became president of National Equity. During the period of 1947 to 1951, Florsheim exhibited at the Milwaukee Art Institute and also mounted two shows at Luyber Galleries in New York. Florsheim, also active in Provincetown artists colony, was a trustee and honorary vice president of Provincetown Art Association. In 1965, Florsheim was appointed to the Illinois State Art Council and became a member of the Audubon Artists and Society of American Graphic Artists.
