Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. A finely made and beautifully painted pottery pitcher with a porcelain like dark green and white glaze finish highlighting ornate floral panels accented by linear banding. The vessel's body has a globular form with a tall, narrow neck. It is set on a flat discoidal foot, with a gourde like presence thanks to its overall shape and painted decorations. A beautiful black-on-white spiky leaf motif prevails over its exterior, finely painted in an identical manner through a series of repeating registers. A slight craquelure accents portions of the glazed surface nicely. Size: 5.5" W x 9.75" H (14 cm x 24.8 cm)
