Description
C.S. Hammond & Co. (American, 1900-2010), 1915-1925. 18" terrestrial globe in a brass meridian ring with hour circles at North and South Poles, having a horizon band noting the months of the year and corresponding zodiac signs, on a mahogany base in the empire taste, having a tapering pedestal with four curved feet. Marked to globe with copyright by W. & A. Johnson Ltd. Note: This globe shows the name of St. Petersburg, Russia as Petrograd. The city held this name from September 1, 1914 until January 26, 1924 when it was renamed Leningrad. Approx. h. 46", dia. 23.5" (horizon band).
Condition
Fading, stains and darkening to the paper surface with some tears and overpaint; globe does not rotate in meridian entirely; multiple cracks to feet; stand is stable.
