Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Moche II, ca 300 CE. A superb example of the portrait vessels of the Moche culture. Perhaps the only ancient culture in the Americas that produced such vessels and it has been possible to follow the progression of age and rank of several of the individuals portrayed in pottery. These individuals lived and in their own way were rock stars of the day. Pottery kero used for drinking chicha depicting a very stern warrior with large earspools, wearing tan turban. Needless to say, very realistic! Size: 8.25" W x 6.5" H (21 cm x 16.5 cm)
