Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A lavishly decorated, hand-built pottery figure known as a 'pretty lady' with delineated legs, a pair of ornate earrings, and a broad chest adorned with a modest circular medallion. The abstract visage is comprised of impressed ovoid eyes, a prominent triangular nose, a miniscule mouth, discoid earspools, and a pointed chin, all beneath a centrally parted coiffure. Faint red-orange pigment adorns the head and accessories of the figure. The hands are placed in a solemn fashion on its abdomen. It is quite the treat to see one of these in such impeccable condition. Size: 2" W x 4.5" H (5.1 cm x 11.4 cm)
