Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fabulous collection of three leaded bronze figurines of Osiris, god of the underworld. All three depict Osiris with his signature Atef crown with a frontal uraeus cobra and a pair of ostrich feathers. Osiris stares forward with a postiche beard on his chin. Across his chest he holds his signature flagellum and short-handled heka scepter in both hands. The largest figure is just his torso, but the other two are mummiform with fused legs. Fine layers of green and dark brown patina envelop the surface of all figures. The flagellum and a short-handled heka scepter are both Egyptian symbols of authority and kingship, showing Osiris's close connection with the pharaoh and his role as Ruler of the Dead. Size of short slender Osiris: 2.375" L x .5" W (6 cm x 1.3 cm); large Osiris: 2.375" L x .75" W (6 cm x 1.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
