Description
Marion Huse (American, 1896-1967), three works on wood, including: "Stylized Girl Holding Bird", oil on wood, signed LL, ¾ length view of girl with short dark hair, large round eyes, wearing white, holding a bird in her hands, indistinct background mostly red and green, unframed, cracks/chips along edge of wood, five small nail size holes, hole/puncture to wood on right side of figure's face, small scratches, 24 ¼" h. x 9 ½" w.; "Stylized Pair of Standing Women", oil on wood, signed LL, depiction of two women shown in ¾ view, both have light brown hair and dark eyes, the woman on the left wears a pink dress while the woman on the right wears white, background is blue and gray, unframed, wear/loss to bottom edge, vertical crack in wood along top, scrapes, 23 ¾" h. x 13 ¼" w.; along with "Figural Abstract", oil on wood panel, unsigned, abstract woman with small child, figures are suggested with lines, predominately red against a gray background, unframed, wear/loss to edges primarily corners, chip in wood on right side, vertical crack along bottom, abrasions, 34" h. x 11 ½" w. [Works by Marion Huse are currently being offered at Vose Galleries and Childs Gallery, and have been sold by Spanierman Gallery in the past. This work was given to the Brockton Art Museum (MA) by the artist's husband, Dr. Robert Barstow; the BAM in turn gifted the Huse Collection to the New Britain Museum of American Art which later chose to sell some Huse works through auction at Winter Associates, Inc., CT]
