Description
Three specimens of native copper from the Ray Mine in Pinal County, Arizona. There used to be a town of Ray, Arizona, but it got mined away as the open-pit copper mine expanded decades ago. The nearest town now is Kearny. The largest specimen appears to have been acid-etched out of the original rock. It is approx 6 x 4 x 1 inch and weighs about 318.6 grams. The second is like it at 2.5 x 2 x 0.75 inches and 47.5 grams. The third piece is original mine rock with copper leaf growing out of the crevices and coated with malachite -- simply beautiful. It is about 4.5 x 2.5 x 3 inches and weighs about 443 grams.Date: Country (if not USA): State: ArizonaCity: RayProvenance: William Mayrsohn Collection
