Description
Likely Leopold Lambert, c. 1895. Clown doll with bisque head, brown glass paperweight eyes, mouth slightly open. Card suit decoration on face, and rough brillo wire hair. Hinged legs and composition hands. On composite body with internal mechanism, key winding mechanism and pull-out on and off switch. Balanced on the top poles of a white wooden ladder that is posed on a velvet-covered wooden base. Clown wears period pale blue silk with orange silk bodice, fur pompons on legs and a lace collar, jabot and cuffs. France, late 19th/ early 20th c.

Condition
Face decoration in excellent condition. Loss of clown cap. Minor restoration and loss at hands. Loss to nap of velvet stand. Loss to paint on ladder and wear to clothing, all consistent with age and use. Mechanism not currently functioning. Condition report available upon request.
