Description
William Simpson (British, 1823-1899). Original 1855 lithograph printed by Edmund Walker (1813/14-1882). Titled, "Disembarkation of the Expedition to Kertch at Kamish Bornou," depicting odepicting the bay crowded with shipping and, nearer to the shore, profuse launch boats packed with troops; men and guns are landed with the aid of narrow gangplanks, while a mounted officer directs operations. Originally published on August 3, 1855 as part of “Colnaghi’s Authentic Series: The Seat of the War in the East.” Various printers’ marks, including PAUL & DOMINIC COLNAGHI & CO., PUBLISHERS TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA, and DAY & SON, LITHOGRAPHERS TO THE QUEEN. Includes Certificate of Authenticity from The Map House, London, U.K. and background information on artist and work (attached to verso). Presented in a decorative linen matte and elegantly framed. Work Size: 13.25 x 19.5 in.
