Executed in 1974, the present work by David Hockney is a drawing, carefully (and vigorously) produced in pastel and crayon over lithograph. The subject and sitter in the work is Yves-Marie Hervé, more commonly known as Yves Marie de Paris to Hockney. The artist met Yves Marie while he was a young student at École du Louvre and became one of Hockney's fast friends and early lovers. This tender and colourful portrait recalls his emotional attachment to Yves Marie, with careful attention to his sitter's plaid pants and modelling of the leg as well as his gaze upon the lilies, which are also coloured.Provenance as follows: Collection of John Reinhold, New York: Private Collector New York: Private Collector Paris

The work is in a excellent condition, no rips or folding. The paper has a very slight yellow tinge to it, but overall it’s very superior to works of its age.
