He grew up in Chicago, then lived in Detroit, New York, Rochester, Tehran, and Salisbury, CT before moving to Pinehurst in 1984. He was a graphics and fine artist, later designing Japanese-style gardens, a number of which are in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area. In earlier years, his work was exhibited at varioart museums including the Detroit Institute of Art, New Britain, Whitney, and Chicago. He won numerous awards.
