Description
John L. Doyle (American, 1939-2010) RARE "Koshari Sacred Clown" Original Signed Watercolor Painting Professionally Matted & Framed - This piece is a rare, original watercolor painting by John L. Doyle. The piece depicts "Koshari", a sacred clown that is often seen on the Hopi Mesas. In the Hopi tradition, the Sacred Clown frequently disrupts and makes a mess out of some of the most fundamental rituals. Their purpose is to show how overdoing anything is bad not only for the individual but for the people as a whole as well. This piece is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. The painting has been professionally framed and matted with a lovely border. The piece (including the frame) measures 36" x 28.25". For over a decade Doyle studied ethnology and anthropology. Doyle's art reflects his fascination with the human condition. Doyle has had more than 50 one man national exhibitions, participated in more than 30 national and international group exhibitions, and is the recipient of more than 32 awards, including purchase prizes.
