Mose Tolliver (AL, 1925-2006), Two Folk Art Paintings (Rooster and Turtle)
paint on board; the proudly posed rooster (24 x 12 in.) (paint specks on background appear original); and the turtle painted on an old ironing board (good estate condition); both signed.
Mose Tolliver was born to sharecroppers near Montgomery, Alabama. After a severe injury in the late 1960s, he turned to painting as a means to combat boredom and pain. Tolliver's work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, American Folk Art Museum, New York, and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama.
