Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze short sword of a slender form with a narrow blade bearing a thick midrib as well as an integral tubular handle topped with forked prongs. Visible remains of the original blade edge illustrate how the sharpened edge coursed around the peripheries of the body and created an efficient instrument of war. Thick, mottled layers of orange, brown, and green patina cover all surfaces of this wonderful weapon. Size: 19.625" L x 3.3" W (49.8 cm x 8.4 cm)

Chipping and losses to most of original blade edge as shown. Very slight bending to overall form, with light encrustations, and some jagged edges along missing blade edge. Light earthen deposits and great patina throughout.
