Description
Fort Pierce, Florida, on artist board, 12" X 16", well listed artist, from Sarasota & Bradenton area of Florida.....Eugene (Gene) White attended the Ringling School of Art in the late 1940’s and 1950’s where he studied under Loran Wilford. He was among a body of young artists who were recognized as “Artists Who Made Sarasota Famous” in a 2010 exhibit at the Sarasota Art Association. Preferring painting over farming in Ohio, after his schooling he remained in Sarasota and taught landscape and portrait classes in Bradenton, Florida. He served as artist in residence in Ohio, Michigan, North Dakota, Georgia, and Florida. An impressionist who liked to tell stories within his paintings, Gene found his subject matter in the boat yards, marinas, beaches and African American communities of Florida, especially in the Sarasota and Bradenton areas. In his home state of Ohio he painted on location in his hometown of Middle Point and captured the farmer at work. His keen perception of light and use of rich and true colors catches the mood of his subject and often touches the familiar in the viewer.Winning national and local awards for his paintings, White exhibited in juried shows throughout the nation. He completed many portrait commissions and is represented in numerous prominent collections. In New York we won awards at the Salamagundi Club and the Knickerbocker Artists. He received the Ohio Governor’s Award and is listed in Who’s Who in American Art.
