Rare George III Red Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy
ca. 1800, with a hipped cover and Sheffield-plate fittings, the single-compartment interior with a matching lid over a foil-lined well.

Condition
In overall good condition with no notable losses. There are four faint hairline shrinkage cracks: two at the back end of both sides and two to the top and bottom of the front of the caddy.Front also has a small blister to the tortoiseshell. Inside the caddy, there are two shrinkage cracks to the top of the cover and a small nick to the rim. The top knop and hinges have been replaced, and the stringing on the sides is likely painted. The inside cover has a waxed finish, whereas the outside tortoiseshell is more matte in finish.
