Description
Three Sevres Marked Porcelain Cups and Saucers. Comprising a pair of bleu celeste ground cans and saucers; and a cup and saucer painted with polychrome bouquets. The first two with extensive scrolling foliate cisele gilt reserves enclosing polychrome painted floral sprays or fanciful birds. The cans with spurious interlaced Ls enclosing R, over arrow and dot. Bird saucer with inlaced Ls enclosing u, under dot over a T. The other saucer with interlaced Ls, between M and gg.White ground cup unmarked; sacuer with black enamel heart enclosing a c. Stoke on Trent, England. Circa 1840 and later. 2 3/4" H. x 2 5/8" Diameter, the cans. The saucers 1 1/2" H. x 5 1/4" Diameter. 2 1/2" H., the white cup; 5 1/4" Diameter, the saucer. Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA. {Condition: The bird saucer with significant black dots of frit signifying overfiring. 3/8 " shallow foot rim chip to plain saucer. Glaze scratch or flaw to cup well.}. {NB: Herbert Minton (1793-1858) became obsessed by Sevres porcelain and started making Sevres copies in the 1820s. These examples probably date to circa 1840, although it is possible they are later.}.
