Description
Three Porcelain Articles in Sevres Style. Comprising a Piedestal a Oignons, and a teacup and saucer. The items were probably all produced at the Minton factory in England. The Piedestal of typical low-bellied form, with green-blue ground, between gilt bands, each side finely painted with fancy birds withing oval cartouches decorated with rococo scrolls and foliate motifs. The Tasse (gobelet) HÈbert or teacup with entwined handle, and saucer, are exceedingly well-painted with shaped cartouches containing a bird amongst foliage, and with a oieil de perdrix and vining foliate gilding. below gilt bands. The deep, rich green ground is most likely a later addition. Blue interlaced Ls and the letter D to the Piedestal; the Gobelet marked with interlaced Ls, containing letter L, indistinct additional blue stripe. Impressed O and 8 to the cup. The saucer with underglaze O only. Attributed to Minton, England. Circa 1840s, in 18th Century style. {6" H. x 3 3/4" W. x 3 3/4" D., the Piedestal. The cup 2 3/4" H. 3" Diameter; 4 1/8" Diameter with handle. 6 3/16" Diameter, the saucer}. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA. The Piedestal, Davis-Holdship Antiques, Carmel California, 1979. Three chips between 1/16 and 1/8 inch, to Piedestal. The saucer underside with many kiln spitting dots, characteristic of over-firing.
