Description
This lot consists of an unframed fine art print on paper, done in the surrealist style of Francis Bacon (British, 1909-1992). Image depicts a man with distorted features against a background of solid black. Handwritten graphite inscriptions at bottom of composition. A striking and enigmatic addition to any collection. Approximate dimensions 11.75" x 8.25".
Francis Bacon (British, 1909-1992) was born into a wealthy British family. As the first world war tore through Europe, Bacon spent most of his early life living between England and Ireland. He soon found his way to Paris and Berlin, where he worked as a furniture and interior designer before turning his attention toward painting. Today, Bacon is known for his paintings of single subjects represented in isolation, with their faces and figures oftentimes distorted in a rather grotesque style. The artist's vision of humanity is a testament to his understanding of the suffering and the alienation that afflicted mankind during the second half of the 20th century.
