Description
This lot consists of a gouache painting on paper, done in the Cubist style of Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963). Hand-painted inscription at lower right. Amidst a flurry of books and pages, "Stravinsky" and "K" stand out in bold scarlet pigment. This earth-toned abstraction is a unique harmony of overlapping value and shape. Framed dimensions approximately 21.75" x 18.5".
Reverse side of piece features a stamp which reads, "6".
Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963) was a pre-eminent painter, collage artist, sculptor, and printmaker known for playing a critical role in the development of both Fauvism and Cubism. Braque possessed a particular fascination for geometrics and "simultaneous perspective".
