Description
This lot consists of a framed acrylic painting on canvas, done in the style of Andre Masson (French, 1896-1987). Image depicts an abstract figure replete with value and color. Hand-painted inscription at lower left corner. Framed dimensions are approximately 21" x 16".
Reverse side of piece features an affixed paper label at center and a small sticker at bottom. Both feature inscriptions written in French, which are illegible to this author.
Andre Masson (French, 1896-1987) began his study of art at the tender of age of eleven years. He was a veteran of the first world war. Though Masson's early works reflect a clear interest in Cubism, his later paintings were Surrealist in nature. He was an outspoken proponent of automatic drawing and altering one's state of consciousness during the creation of art.
